Yesterday I had the pleasure of being able to talk to another person about my art. I don't usually get to do that so it was a very special opportunity for me. We were talking about how to price out art and she told me to tell her what I thought the value of my art was. I gave her a price I thought in my head was fair but she gave me a wildly different number then what I had thought. That really got me thinking about how I should approach my art. I tend to devalue my work even though it'd really good. Not to toot my own horn here but I understood what she meant by that. I reflected more on that and I realized that this relationship I had with my art was the same in how I approached all my work outside of the art. I tend to do really good work but I don't see how good or important it really is because it just seems normal to me. I forget how different and unique my art is to people and I forget how it looks to a stranger. So from now on I'll price my art and value my work based on what I want it to be , not what I think others would want it to be.
