There is beauty in every moment
Here are the moments I wanted to share , enjoy
More than a reflection
Came across this mirror when I was traveling in San-Francisco. Something about it made me stop to admire it. There was a level of attention to detail in this mirror that really made me stop what I was doing and appreciate it. There were decorations all over at that made me feel like it was much more than just a mirror. It almost felt like there was something emanating from it. The adornments and flourishing detail coming off of it is a reflection of that. The mirror became more than a mirror when I actually spent time to be present in the moment I was in. Anyways I’ll let you enjoy the picture.

Take me to Church
Stumbled on this church as I was exploring downtown with my friend . At first glance I was locked in a visual trance by the amount of detail in it. Then as I sat there more and more started to be revealed to me just how much work was put into this Altar. This whole thing was made of marble and each figure was hand carved. It was beautiful and I try to take inspiration from this work into my everyday. The attention to detail, the symmetry, and the energy coming from the place is something I won’t forget. Sitting there just staring at the Altar brought me a sense of peace that I hadn’t felt in a long time. I felt like all my problems, worries, and sense of time slip away & in its place was serenity , tranquility , and timelessness. It’s crazy how something like this can have such a profound effect on a person. Last thing to note is on the very top of the dome you may notice it says “Ego veri sum tas via et vita” I did some research and apparently it’s latin for “the way and the truth and the life” not fully sure what that means yet.

Alms for the Angels
Also came across this at the church. The statue sits outside the church at the main entrance, I think this is where people leave their donations coming into church or something like that. I can’t imagine the amount of work it would take to carve a statue like this out of a block of marble. I can imagine the sculptor was told “We need a donations bowl, make it beautiful.

Appreciating Abstraction
When I was in the Museum of Modern Art , it took me a while to really understand the art there. At first had the thought “I could do this easy, why is this in here?” . It wasn’t until I looked over the photos again to put them on here that I realized why they were there. Sure It seemed pretty simple and even I could do it … but I didn’t . I’m pretty sure that I couldn’t have possibly came up with this even if I tried. The more that I look at it after the trip the more I’ve come to appreciate the art for what it is , instead of judging it off the bat. It really shows me how much inspiration you can take from other people’s unique perspective. It shows me that you really have the persona of “lone genius”. By taking inspiration & influence from others and then incorporating that into your own style is how new things are created. I could copy the designs or the framework but I’m not really putting my own style to it anymore. The trip to the museum really helped me open my eyes to what’s possible out there instead of staying inside my own tiny bubble.
All you need is LOVE
Now this may seem gimmicky, cheesy, cliche, or all of the above BUT when I saw this sitting outside in the courtyard I stopped to look at it as any person at an art gallery does. Initially I didn’t really think anything of it . Reflecting back on it now though I want to expand my thoughts from that time a bit … Going to San Francisco was a huge thing for me at the time. I barely had the money, was going to a seminar which I knew nothing about which cost me a pretty penny. Despite all this I still didn’t know why I was going. I just felt this urge deep inside to go. Something deep inside of me just resonated so much with the idea of going. I realized that If I just got out of my own way sometimes and let myself had adventures I wouldn’t regret the choice. Let yourself live, let yourself have adventures, do things that scare you, and remember to always love yourself a little more everyday.
What is art really though?
I don’t think my perceptions of what are “should” be have ever been shattered and recreated so much in my time in the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) . This is a picture of my friend Nathan admiring one of the art installations. Now before coming here , I used to think art was an amazing work of which looked realistic and had very intricate details and a whole bunch of other BS. What I realized though that art started to shift from this notion of perfection to something of self expression in the rawest form. Now the piece to the right , on first impression it just seems like just a giant chalkboard with random scribbles in it. What started to shine through that though was this feeling of order . It felt like every stroke was intentionally and carefully put there. There wasn’t expectation of what it “should” look like. Or if it had to resemble anything at all. It was just pure expression free of expectation or judgement. It reminds me a bit of when I sit in a forest. Everything has this weird feeling of ordered chaos around it. As if everything is completely random on the surface yet has some type of logical structure holding it all together. You experience what it’s like to hold those two concepts in your hands at the same time. Two seemingly completely distinct “things” yet they feel the same all at once. I try to create a bridge between those worlds continuously in my art. Everyday that gap gets a little smaller and I understand both a little better.

What?!
Okay this one just threw me for a ride. Initial thoughts on this? “Oh cool , a bunch of pencils coming out of a bolt and a face. All while spinning through space” Then it hit me how crazy what I just thought was. I don’t really have much to say on this one other than wow. It took me a while to see the face at the end . Then the more I looked I saw how much detail and work went into this. All of the dots for the copper bolt, all the shading for the pencils , the circular lines in the background. It’s awesome to just be exposed to things that are outside your own bubble of creativity at times.
Capturing ideas
“The graveyard is the richest place on earth, because it is here that you will find all the hopes and dreams that were never fulfilled, the books that were never written, the songs that were never sung, the inventions that were never shared, the cures that were never discovered, all because someone was too afraid to take that first step, keep with the problem, or determined to carry out their dream.”
